Spiritual Stations

Wara (abstinence) is the second Sufi station, meaning spiritual caution and avoiding not only sins but anything that might lead to sin.

Abstinence (Wara) is the second station, where the seeker develops caution and spiritual sensitivity. It means avoiding not only clear sins, but also doubtful matters that might lead to sin. This involves: • Avoiding actions of questionable legality • Mindful consumption of food and resources • Guarding the senses from harmful influences • Developing awareness in all daily activities • Choosing spiritually beneficial companions • Protecting the heart from spiritual contamination Through wara, the heart becomes purified from spiritual pollution and becomes more receptive to divine light.
