The Waterwheel

by Rumi

Stay together, friends. Don't scatter and sleep. Our friendship is made of being awake. The waterwheel accepts water and turns and gives it away, weeping. That way it stays in the garden, whereas another roundness rolls off, and never returns. Don't insist on going where you think you want to go. Ask the way to the spring. Your living pieces will form a harmony. There is a moving palace that floats in the air with balconies and clear water flowing through, infinity everywhere, yet contained under a single tent.

Today's Reflection

Like the waterwheel, let your heart turn with the flow of life, giving and receiving love in harmony.

Spiritual Guidance

What is Sufism?

Sufism is the mystical dimension of Islam, focusing on the inner purification of the heart and the attainment of divine knowledge through meditation, self-discipline, and love.

How do I begin a spiritual practice?

Start with simple practices like daily meditation, recitation of sacred phrases (dhikr), and reflection on sacred poetry. Consistency and sincerity are more important than complexity.

What is the goal of Sufi practice?

The ultimate goal is self-knowledge and God-realization - awakening to your true nature and living in harmony with divine will.

Do I need to be Muslim to practice Sufism?

While Sufism is rooted in Islamic tradition, many universal spiritual principles are accessible to sincere seekers of all backgrounds who approach with respect and openness.
